Samburu National Reserve:

Samburu Game Reserve is situated in the hot and arid fringes of Kenya's vast Northern Frontier District. The area is home to the Samburu tribe, pastoral relatives of the Masai. The landscape is rugged and dramatic - against a backdrop of volcanic mountains, gaunt hills and withered scrub tree punctuate the sparse and dry terrain with clusters of the incredibly hardy desert rose providing the occasional flash of vivid colour. The Ewaso Nyiro river, lifeline of the area, runs along the southern boundary dividing Samburu Game Reserve from Buffalo Springs Reserve. Crocodile and hippo share the river with the many small herds of elephant which bathe and frolic in the muddy brown waters during the heat of the day before returning later to browse on the lush vegetation of the riverine forest. Buffalo, lion, leopard, cheetah and plains game may also be seen but a special feature of this Reserve are the various species of game unique to these northern parks - Beisa oryx, the long necked gerenuk, Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe and the blue shanked Somali ostrich. Full day of game viewing drives in this dry semi-arid park with its striking background view of the Mathew's Range. Day 5: Samburu - Masai Mara Game Reserve, Kenya

Morning game viewing. Transfer to the airstrip for a light aircraft over the Great Rift Valley to Masai Mara. Transfer to your lodge for lunch and afternoon leisure game viewing. Masai Mara National Reserve is a pristine wilderness of haunting beauty, it promises its visitors a profusion of wildlife, prolific bird life and the unprecedented opportunity of catching up with all the members of the 'Big Five' in one morning. Samburu Serena Safari Lodge:
Situated on the banks of the Uaso Nyiro River, in the center of the Samburu Game Reserve, the Samburu Serena Safari Lodge echoes the robust rhythms of African riverfront life. The lodge was inspired by the architecture of the indigenous Samburu tribe; it blends into its natural environment by making full use of native materials. Thatched cabins built using exotic African woods create an escapist atmosphere. Accommodations are cooled by breezes off the river and overhead punkah fans. All guestrooms have private verandahs with uninterrupted vistas of the languid river and the wildlife it attracts, as well as the countless crocodiles that make the waters their home. Situated in the heart of the Masai Mara National Reserve, this safari lodge is set on the saddle of a hill overlooking 1 800 square kilometres of rolling plains and woodlands that contain one of the world's richest wildlife sanctuaries. It is on this very terrain, stretching endlessly before the lodge, that the annual migration takes place, when millions of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle traverse the landscape to feed on the rich new grass and give birth to their young.
